After a brief welcome, Path4Her Founder, Semira Yesufu, introduced the organization’s mission, highlighting how tech can be a pathway to confidence, creativity, and independence for young African girls. For many, it was the first time hearing of careers in tech that didn’t require becoming coding.
From there, the workshop kicked off, an introduction to non-code roles and tools in tech. We focused hands-on learning workshop, as facilitators guided the girls through:
Figma for user product design
Trello for task and project management
Community Management as a growing and essential field in tech teams
The workshop session was interactive, lively, and engaging. The girls asked thoughtful questions, brainstormed ideas and shared their perspectives.
Midway through the session, we paused for a fun icebreaker to bond, and create a sense of community.
Afterwards, we introduced them to the Path4Her newsletter, encouraging them to stay plugged in, continue learning, and join a broader sisterhood of young women in tech. And we sure got a significant number of sign ups!
To close the day, we shared Path4Her merchandise and refreshments, took bad ass pictures with the girlies!
Impact
By the end of the day, 25 girls had been meaningfully impacted, exposed to opportunities they hadn’t considered before. While it may seem like a small number, we know the ripple effect of inspiration is powerful. Each girl returns home with knowledge, ideas, and new dreams and sometimes, that’s how revolutions start.
Looking Ahead
From Kubwa to Lafia to Lagos, Path4Her’s journey continues. Each outreach adds another chapter to the story of African girls rising in tech. We believe in early exposure, relatable role models, and community building as our tools for long term impact. And as we look to the future, one thing is clear: we are only just getting started.
